A while back, I posted a review of iGmail where I covered its offline access and other features. A new update is out that changes a lot and I thought it deserved another mention. First, the price has dropped from $1.99 to FREE! There is no reason at all not to try this out on your Gmail account.
Second, and a wonderful answer to my wish list, the new app adds push notification. The server costs involved are offset with a in-app subscription purchase. The cost for the rest of 2009 is the lowest price possible in the app store, $0.99. Push notifications for all of 2010 will soon be added to the app at an expected price point of $2.99. While I wish there was some discount for those of us that already purchased app or a a price that is associated with annual date of purchase instead of calendar year, it isn’t a bad deal for what you get. Push notifications have options for displaying the sender and/or the subject line of the message. Response time on the notifications are very quick. The pop-up notification in conjunction with the unread mail count on the app icon really makes it a full-featured replacement to the built-in mail app.
Also available in the new version is compatibility for Google Apps in case you have your own domain set up or your work uses that for email. This too is available as an in-app purchase at a one-time price of $1.99.
Overall, a really nice app just became a great one. Truly worth the download. If you have Gmail, download this thing and spend some time kicking the tires. You won’t be disappointed.
